The Minister of Finance of Indonesia, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, at the APBN KiTa press conference on May 5th, 2026, noted that the state budget deficit was up to IDR 240.1 trillion, or approximately US$ 14.12 billion, or 0.93% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), as of the end of March 2026.
As of 31 March 2026, Indonesia’s State Budget remained expansionary, continuing to support domestic economic growth. State revenue reached IDR 574.9 trillion or US$ 33.82 billion, increasing by 10.5% (yoy) and achieving 18.2% of the annual target, driven mainly by strong tax revenue growth of 20.7% (yoy) to IDR 394.8 trillion or US$ 23.2 billion.
Meanwhile, state expenditure rose more rapidly to IDR 815.0 trillion, up 31.4% (yoy) and equivalent to 21.2% of the annual budget allocation, reflecting the government’s commitment to accelerating spending to stimulate the economy.
As a result, the budget recorded a deficit of IDR 240.1 trillion, or US$ 14.12 billion, or 0.93% of GDP. To finance this deficit, budget financing realization reached IDR 257.4 trillion, representing 37.3% of the annual financing target.
In comparison, the deficit in March 2026 increased significantly from the same period last year, reaching IDR 104.2 trillion (US$6.1 billion), or 0.43% of GDP. Therefore, the deficit increased 130.4% (yoy).

3% Statutory Ceiling of State Budget Deficit
According to Law Number 17 of 2003 on State Finance, the state budget deficit is limited to 3% of GDP. The government has targeted a 2026 deficit of IDR 689,1 trillion (US$40.5 billion), or 2.68% of GDP.
